Decades pass by, don't they go by in a blink
My life flashes before me of the years gone by
My troubled youth
The sadness that surrounded me
I didn't know it then, but looking back at it now
I see it clearly, for what it was
Decades pass by don't they go by in a blink
My life was in a state of grey, till I met you
The pendulum swings
The clock ticks
Winters gone and time moves on
I look at my box full of poetry from the years gone by
And I remember my life, it's written there in that grey box
How strange...
I read old poems and I'm numb, remembering times
Days fogged up, my mind won't let me travel to
I'm a kid sitting on the floor scribbling away
Heart break, tears, rage, dark days
Pictures from the bottom of the box of you and I
My life lit up when we first met
Decades pass by, don't they go by in a blink
I look at my children's eyes and smile
Their Decades are different, much brighter
They still struggle in their own ways
Their Decades pass by
I sit back and watch then grow, make decisions
Does she really have to go?
Can I hold her some more?
In my heart she's still 5 years old
Mommy will you do my hair?
Mommy will you play with me?
She's fifteen years old
I know she'll be strong and bold
Take on the world
Just watch her go
Decades pass by, don't they go by in a blink
I'll use them wisely and take time to see clearly
You came along to heal my heart
You gave me a brand new start
Decades...
